Calculation details
Eligibility — Immediate Annuity
Age 50 + 20 years of creditable service (voluntary)
Any age + 25 years of creditable service (voluntary)
MRA + 10 years(MRA is age 55–57 depending on birth year) — annuity is reduced; no Supplement
Age 62 + 5 years — immediate unreduced annuity; no Supplement
Annuity Formula
1.7% × High-3 × first 20 years of FSPS service
1.0% × High-3 × years beyond 20
Survivor election reduces annuity by 10% (50% survivor) or 5% (25% survivor)
Pre-1984 FSRDS component: if you have FSRDS time, that portion uses FSRDS rules — only that component may credit unused sick leave.
FSPS Supplement
Payable on an immediate, unreduced annuity and under age 62. Not paid for MRA+10, deferred, or disability retirements. Stops at 62 and is subject to the Social Security earnings test.
(Civilian FSPS/FERS Years ÷ 40) × Age-62 Social Security Estimate
Excludes sick leave and military buyback — civilian service only, capped at 40 years
Subject to the SS earnings test once you reach MRA; ends at age 62
Notes
Sick leave: generally not creditable under FSPS-only service. If you have an FSRDS component, limited sick leave credit may apply to that portion only.
Military buyback: counts toward eligibility and annuity once the deposit is paid; excluded from the Supplement.
